Supplier and Enterprise Development

The Supplier & Enterprise Development Department (SEDD) was established to develop component manufacturers in the supply chain to conform to the international standards prescribed by the automotive manufacturing industry. The Supplier Efficiency Improvement Programme focuses on addressing the need to increase local component content and uplifting the current manufacturing standards within the automotive manufacturing sector.

The support ranges from a combination of business improvement projects related to productivity, quality assurance in accordance with ISO standards, environmental and cleaner production; to logistics, clustering and SMME development initiatives.

The Supplier Efficiency Improvement Programme aims to address the challenges of international competition and the constant pressure on QCD (quality, cost and delivery) performance facing SMME’s.

Through training and implementation support, utilising world-class manufacturing methodologies, suppliers are better positioned for local and international supply by improving their competitiveness. The interventions performed at companies can range from a three month to a one-year programme, depending on the nature of the assistance provided. The interventions are measured before start of implementation and at end of implementation, to determine the impact of the intervention.

  • Quality Management Systems
  • Benchmarking & Assessments
  • Logistics Improvement
  • Kaizen/ Lean Manufacturing Programme,
  • Rapid Process Improvement Workshops (RPIW),
  • Accredited Supervisor Learnership

The Engineering Student Placement Programme, managed by the AIDC, is an opportunity for aspiring graduate or unemployed engineers intending on applying their trade within the auto sector.

The AIDC uses its collaboration with companies participating in the various supplier development programmes as a delivery mechanism for the programme.
