The Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) has helped Protectoll (Pty) Ltd, a leading manufacturer of Tyre Bands, achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification. Tyre Bands, a safety innovation endorsed by the Road Traffic Management Centre (RTMC), are designed to secure a tyre in place during a blowout, preventing the rim from making direct contact with the road. This allows drivers to maintain control of their vehicles and safely drive up to 20 km to a location where they can replace the tyre.
Previously, Ramsay Engineering manufactured and supplied the Tyre Bands on behalf of Protectoll to clients such as Toyota South Africa. In an effort to improve operational efficiency and product quality, Protectoll approached the AIDC for assistance in implementing a quality management system, specifically the ISO 9001:2015 standard.
The AIDC, through its Business Development and Supplier & Enterprise Development departments assisted Protectoll in applying for the Automotive Industry Transformation Fund’s (AITF)’s Capacity Development Grant. Through funding from the AITF, Protectoll was able to implement the ISO 9001:2015 system and secure a Certification Body for the audit and three-year certification cycle.
AIDC’s support included helping Protectoll compile the tender scope and overseeing the project from implementation to certification.
