In celebration of Women’s Month, the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) organised a three-day training programme specifically tailored for women operating in the automotive aftermarket sector. The training, titled Improve Your Business (IYB), is part of the globally recognised Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) framework developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

This initiative targeted women-owned businesses involved in logistics, fleet management, and vehicle maintenance services, which all form part of the critical components of the automotive value chain. It aligns with the AIDC’s mandate to empower and develop small enterprises within the automotive value chain, especially those operating in townships.

Most of the women who attended the training are based in township areas. This intervention is in line with the Gauteng Department of Economic Development’s commitment outlined in the budget vote presented last month by MEC Lebogang Maile to support township businesses as vital drivers of job creation, community development, and economic resilience.

Delivering the keynote address, AIDC Board Member Ms. Princess Mangoma encouraged women to stand together and collaborate. “As women, do not remain stagnant, stay relevant, continuously seek opportunities, and invest in sustainable mechanisms for your businesses,” she said. She further emphasised the importance of programmes like IYB in promoting the inclusivity of women in the automotive aftermarket, enabling them to become competitive players in the broader automotive sector.

Over 20 women-owned businesses participated in the training, which was hosted at the Automotive Supplier Park in Tshwane.
