On Thursday, 15 August 2024, Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) and Tshwane Automotive Special Economic Zone joined forces to celebrate the achievements of their latest group of graduates. The ceremony took place at the Gauteng Automotive Learning Centre (GALC) and marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to address the skills needs of the evolving automotive industry.
With over 80 graduates receiving their certificates, the event highlighted their exceptional dedication and the high level of skill they have demonstrated throughout their training. The ceremony underscored the shared commitment of TASEZ and AIDC to advancing skills development in the automotive sector.
AIDC CEO Andile Africa emphasised the importance of the collaboration between the two organizations. “We complement each other nicely,” Africa remarked, noting that the partnership is crucial for shaping the industry through targeted skills initiatives. He pointed out that while welding remains a core skill offered at GALC, AIDC is also focusing on investing in high-voltage training to meet the industry’s evolving needs on Electric Vehicles.
TASEZ CEO Dr. Bheka Zulu echoed this sentiment, highlighting the broader goals of their joint efforts. “The purpose of this initiative is to reduce unemployment statistics,” Dr. Zulu said. “Our interventions aim to address the skills gap and empower the unemployed with valuable skills.”
The certification ceremony honoured graduates from various programs, including SME Entrepreneurship, Customer Service, and Festo LX. The event was attended by executives and board members from both TASEZ and AIDC, as well as key industry stakeholders.
